The Diamondbacks placed Burnes on the injured list with elbow inflammation Tuesday.
He's likely to be out until late into the 2026 season at the earliest.
Burnes, 30, ed Arizona on a six-year, $210-million contract during the offseason. He pitched to a 2.66 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 11 starts before being sidelined with the elbow issue.
He was an All-Star in each of the previous four seasons, with his best showing coming in 2021, when he won the National League Cy Young Award as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Burnes owns a career 3.15 ERA (131 ERA+) through eight seasons.
