Report: Bengals' Hendrickson not attending mandatory minicamp 35563i
Cincinnati Bengals -rusher Trey Hendrickson is not attending mandatory minicamp as the star hasn't received the new contract he wants, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. 5a565
Hendrickson is subject to fines totalling just over $100,000 if he misses all three days of mandatory minicamp, according to ESPN's Field Yates.
The 30-year-old is entering the final year of his deal, which will pay him $16 million.
Hendrickson has not been shy about his discontent with the Bengals' front office. He said in May that he wasn't going to apologize for the "rates of the defensive ends being paid" in the league and said the contract drama has "become personal" due to a lack of communication.
He added that the Bengals are pushing for a short-term deal, which he equated to "just kicking the can down the road."
Hendrickson was given permission to look for a trade in March while the Bengals tried to extend him.
Cleveland Browns -rusher Myles Garrett reset the market at the position this offseason after g a four-year, $160-million extension. His $40 million average annual salary is $4.4 million higher than that of the next closest edge defender in Danielle Hunter ($35.6 million AAV), per Over The Cap.
Hendrickson led the NFL in sacks last season with 17.5. It was his second straight 17.5-sack campaign.
