Moving day at the U.S. Open!

Typically, moving day implies players are climbing up the leaderboard, but far more moved down at Oakmont. We tracked those who survived the cut as they navigated Oakmont for a third day of golf's toughest test. (All times ET).

7:55 p.m. - J.J. Spaun and Viktor Hovland drop a shot on the final hole, creating a final pairing of Sam Burns and Adam Scott for Sunday.

Oakmont played two strokes easier (72.68 scoring average) on Saturday than it did during the first two rounds. It'll be interesting to see how the USGA sets up the course for the final round in its quest to get an even-par winner.

7:38 p.m. - Sam Burns and J.J. Spaun follow the penultimate group with a pair of birdies of their own. The duo leads at 4-under as the two golfers head to No. 18, playing 0.41 strokes over par.

7:30 p.m. - Fireworks at the U.S. Open? You better believe it! Hovland hits a fantastic pitch out of thick rough to set up an easy birdie putt on No. 17, and Scott follows that up by rolling in a 14-footer to grab a share of the lead at 3-under. Spaun and Burns are also at 3-under, with Hovland one back.

6:45 p.m. - Burns takes the solo lead with a brilliant birdie on No. 13. He hit his tee shot on the par 3 to seven feet and drained the putt. Scott records back-to-back birdies to get to 2-under for the tournament.

6:30 p.m. - Scott, the only player not to post an over-par round during the first two days, makes birdies on the par-3 13th to get to 1-under for the tournament. The 44-year-old is making his 97th consecutive major start, but only has one Masters title to his name. He hasn't missed a major championship since the 2001 U.S. Open.

6:15 p.m. - Carlos Ortiz makes his first bogey of the day on 18 but still signs for an impressive 3-under 67. He's in the clubhouse at even, which might be in the lead by the time Round 3 is over.

6:05 p.m. - Two birdies for Hovland as he makes the turn gets him back to 1-under for the week, two back of the leaders. Oakmont is playing 2.86 strokes over par today, nearly two shots easier than the first two rounds.

5:15 p.m. - Ortiz emerges as a contender as he moves to 4-under on the day, two back of the leaders. It's a position he's never experienced at a major during his career.

4:45 p.m. - J.J. Spaun and Sam Burns are ahead by three shots again, with Adam Scott and Carlos Ortiz sharing third at even par. The leaders will soon face the toughest stretch at Oakmont - Nos. 7 through 10 - so we'll see where they stand as they tee off on No. 11.

4:10 p.m. - The umbrellas are out as the rain starts to strengthen at Oakmont. Burns bogeys No. 2 to give Spaun the solo lead. Hovland has bogeyed two of his first three holes to drop to four back. It's ugly and gross on the course, and the scoring reflects that.

3:55 p.m. - Everyone is on the course, and Spaun opens with a birdie to pull level with Burns. Hovland pulled his opening drive right and had to take an unplayable penalty on the first hole, leading to a bogey. Burns and Spaun have separated from the field by three shots.

3:15 p.m. - Scottie Scheffler's run was short-lived. He misses a two-footer for par on No. 8 and bogeys No. 9 to fall back to 5-over for the week. The front nine is playing 1.68 strokes over par, so Scheffler gained a little bit on the field, but he'll need to put his foot on the gas on the back nine to get back into contention.

2:30 p.m. - Here comes, Scottie! The World No. 1 birdies the par-3 sixth to get to 1-under for the day. His live odds are +700, and DataGolf is giving him a 5.3% chance to win

2:00 p.m. - The final pairing of Burns and Spaun tees off at 3:35 p.m., giving us plenty of time to consume what Oakmont is offering on Day 3. So far, the course is playing nearly 1.5 strokes easier than the opening two days, likely because players who made the cut are playing better golf. Marc Leishman has the best round going at 4-under through 12 holes. Jon Rahm and Collin Morikawa are both 1-under through two holes.
