Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen had nothing but praise for how new quarterback Daniel Jones performed during Colts mandatory minicamp this week. 1ku4o

"Very pleased with what we got right now," Steichen told reporters Thursday, according to Mike Chappell of CBS 4. "He's been doing a hell of a job. Really smart football player. Learned the offense very quickly, making really good decisions out there through OTAs. Obviously, we want to carry that over to training camp."

He added, "Great command in the huddle. Ultimate pro."

Indianapolis signed Jones to a one-year, $14-million deal in free agency this offseason. The club brought in the 28-year-old veteran as competition for former fourth overall pick Anthony Richardson for the starting QB job ahead of next season. Jones spent the first six years of his career with the New York Giants, going 22-44-1 as a starter.

Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter agreed that Jones has "lived up to the billing" thus far.

"He's been as d, with the work habits and the preparation and going about his business just day in, day out," Cooter said.

Meanwhile, Richardson missed minicamp after recently aggravating the AC t in his throwing shoulder, an injury that ended his 2023 rookie campaign early.

"We'll see when he comes back," Steichen said. "Not going to put a timetable for training camp on it, but when he does come back, we'll ease him into throwing, and then we'll go from there. The good thing is, he's not going to need a procedure right now."

Colts players are set to report for training camp on July 22.
